Northeast Ohio's "Amish Country" is an exceptional getaway largely because it offers visitors a rare window into a distinctive and peaceful way of life. Each year, more than 4 million visitors, more than almost any other destination in Ohio, only trailing behind major amusement parks like Cedar Point.

02

The region is home to the largest settlement of Amish people in the United States, whose traditions center around family, hard work, and community. Where one can see Horse-drawn buggies on scenic byways, buy farm-fresh goods and handmade crafts directly from Amish homes, and enjoy local markets overflowing with produce, cheese, and baked goods.

03

The landscape itself is also a huge draw. Rolling hills, vibrant farmland, and winding routes like the Amish Country Byway offer a perfect backdrop for a weekend or longer stay. Autumn brings breathtaking leaf changes, making October the region’s busiest month as people flock to enjoy buggy rides, shop for Amish-made furniture, and attend festivals.

04

Visitors cherish the chance to unplug: many businesses run on cash only, and there are no flashy attractions competing for attention. Instead, people come for immersive experiences, discovering the faith, customs, and hospitality of the local population. Activities range from scenic drives and tours to cultural museums and flea markets, all reinforcing the quaint, simple joys of rural life.

Amish Home Style Cooking

Amish home cooking is renowned for its hearty, satisfying, and unpretentious character. Meals are often prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients; many families grow their own vegetables, preserve fruit, and raise livestock, leading to a uniquely fresh and wholesome table. The food itself leans heavily on traditions passed down for generations, featuring dishes like roasted chicken, creamy mashed potatoes and gravy, seasoned vegetables, handmade noodles, home-baked bread, jams, and a wide variety of baked goods—think luscious pies, cookies, fry pies, and sticky buns
